Eros en Errors

2019
Brebels, Eline
Master of Arts in de beeldende kunsten

Abstract :

My project 'eros & errors' starts from a strong desire to control my immediate environment. Encouraged by my constant confrontation and struggle with dyslexia, this urge for control appeared to originate from a passion through which I wanted to compensate for this learning disorder. A drive to be able to hide the disorder or even try to banish it. From this experience of dyslexia I strive to obtain an original approach to graphic design by giving typography a visual duality between grip and disturbance. From a manual approach I try to give shape to the way in which I personally deal with my learning disability. In the act of weaving I found the right form of interaction. From the consistent execution of a structure, which is what weaving actually is, I was able to obtain a way of disrupting it. Since complete control is not possible, I went in search of a turning moment between the paradoxes of doubt and certainty. It is my intention to teach the viewer to look at faults and inaccuracies, to understand the perception of distortion, and at the same time to exploit the opportunities created in this way.
