My masterproject draws attention to the intrinsic but often unnoticed qualities of everyday objects. The jewellery pieces from the collection CONTAINERS are an artistic research for both formal and functional potential of disposable packaging. Although plastic trays and boxes have a subtle but interesting design , they usually end up in the trash after consumption . Through the use of packaging material as a mould, the negative space will be made visible and materialised in plaster and resin. The voluminous results, that will be combined, are both familiar and new. Packaging material will be a metaphor for any minor product with inherent qualities. The making process, whereby the void of packaging material will be filled, refers to the desire of consumers to fill an emptyness by excessive consumption.
CONTAINERS consists of neckpieces and brooches that will challenge the wearer to revalue waste materials, in this new context the packaging will receive the status of content. |
